Sixth Mass Extinction
Are We Headed for a Sixth Mass Extinction?
I think the most important steps the United States should be taking to prevent species extinction are using vehicles that use carbon dioxide, like cars, less. The more CO2 we use and add into the air, the more the air will warm, causing animals to die. The result of that will will be mass extinction. We also need to help organizations that help animals out more, as well as cut down forests less, and plant trees instead, for the environment to release more oxygen rather than carbon dioxide.
The subheading The Human Impact Today lists some effects that humans have on the environment. The one I believe most greatly affects animals and that habitats is global warming. I think that because when the air is filled with carbon dioxide, the air warms up. Many animals cannot handle the increase in temperature, causing them to die. If that continues, then extinction can occur, causing many species to disappear.
Some ways that people can reduce their impact on the environment are by polluting less and being efficient. People could throw away trash into actual trash cans rather than just throwing it on the ground. They could also use their cars less and not keep them running for long periods of time, unless necessary. When people use electronics, they could turn them off after, instead of keeping them on. There are many ways that people could help the Earth; even the smallest things could help.
Endangered Species Act
primary focus is the protection of animals or their habitats
One example of legislation where the primary focus is the protection of animals or their habitats is the Endangered Species Act ("Summary of the Endangered Species Act." EPA United States Environmental Protection Agency. N.p., n.d. Web. 23 Dec. 2012. .).
It achieved its goal by providing a program for the conservation of threatened and endangered plants and animals and the habitats in which they are found. They require federal agencies to ensure the actions they authorize, fund, or carry out do not damage endangered species or their environments. They also prohibit any action that causes any endangered species to become extinct. That includes, import, export, interstate, and foreign commerce of listed species.
The steps that it took to stop the endangerment of the environment are:
Listing and delisting species- They determine whether to add a species to the Federal lists of endangered and threatened wildlife and plants.
Designating critical habitat
Formulating recovery plans
I agree with that even small things can help global warming but what are some large things that any person can do to help global warming?
DeleteSome important steps that the US should take to prevent species extinction is by using less energy and planting more trees. Although you can not stop energy, you can reduce it. This is a very large step in to the future. This is not the only step that the country should take though. Reducing the amount of CO2 going into the world will just slow down the process of global warming, to fight against the event, the country should also plant trees and plants. This "eats" the CO2 and produces O2.
ReplyDeleteIn the subheading "The Human Impact Today" lists many effects that humans have on the environent. I believe humans effect the environment most by global warming. Much of the CO2 produced today is produced by us. Not naturally. Some examples of CO2 producers are factories, cars, and anything running off of gas or electricity. This hurts the animals because, as we take away their land, the animals can move. As we slowly hunt, animals reproduce. But when the event of a mass extinction comes because of global warming, there will be little to no animals and it will be very hard to recover from it.
Some ways people can fight against global warming is by reclyling and using less energy. Everybody at one time or another has trash. Most types of trash can be reclyled. This means that they will not just sit in a landfill until the decompose, but they will be reused. Although this is just a little thing that many people just pass by, in the end it really does matter. Landfills are filling up very fast, and the more recylcing we do, the slower they will fill. Most people can use less energy simply by shutting off a light. At home, you do not need everylight on in the house, you just need a light on at where you are. This means that if you are not in a room and a light is on, shut it off. This will save you money and it will save the world.
Endagered Species Act
THe primary focus of this act is the protection of animals and their habitats. One example of legislation where the primary focus is the protection of animals or their habitats is the Endangered Species Act ("Summary of the Endangered Species Act." EPA United States Environmental Protection Agency. N.p., n.d. Web. 23 Dec. 2012. .).
When a program that saves and conserves any threatened plants or animals is created, their goal is achieved. They prohibit any action that could cause an endangered species to become extinct.
Some steps that it took to stop the endangerment of the environment are:
Listing and de-listing animal species- They decide whether to add or deny an animal species to the Fedral List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants.
Assigning a habitat for that specific animal or plant.
Create a possible recovery routine or plan so the endangered plant or animal can become not endangered and it can be taken off of the Fedral List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants.
I agree that many of us need to recycle more, perhaps Hudson High should have more recycling bins at lunch instead of just in classrooms.
DeleteJosh Teixeira, I agree with you on needing more recycling bins at the lunches. I think it will help and make things easier.

1. I believe the most important steps the United States should be taking to prevent species extinction is to give credit to auto companies that switch to hydrogen and hybrid cars. This would prevent species extinction because it would decrease the amount of carbon dioxide that this being polluted into the air which therefore will reduce global warming. Another step the United States should take is to enforce laws on which animals are allowed to be hunted and killed and limit the amounts that are allowed to be. This will help the species that is allowed to be hunted and killed so that it does not become endangered and so the species that are endangered can be preserved for years to come. Lastly another step the United States should take is to fund and create organizations that can preserve the rain forests, rebuild them and to help the endangered species inside them. This will create homes for billions of species and have them continue to help the world and be a part of it.
2.The subheading The Human Impact Today lists some effects that humans have on the environment the one I believe that greatly affects animals and their habitats is global warming. Global warming caused by the Greenhouse effect is mainly the gas carbon dioxide that is polluting the earth and leading to temperature increase. Global warming is causing animals to migrate quickly to higher altitudes which led to some plant species to become extinct and other animal species to become invasive. By the animals become invasive this is causing native species to be replaced and therefore extinct. Other animals are left homeless with no place to go and become extinct. Global warming causes a massive increase in extinction because of the animal's inability to deal with the temperature increase and most animals are losing their homes due to the pollution.
3.Some ways people can reduce their impact on the environment is to use Eco-friendly fertilizer or by polluting less. Another way is to plant trees, plants and create organizations that work to rebuild rain forests and try to find new ways to help endangered species. Also they can cause less pollution by switching to hydrogen powered cars. There should also be more laws put into place against hunters and limits on which animals are allowed to be hunted and killed so the endangered species can survive and begin to reproduce and become a healthy and thriving species again. Ways that I can help the environment is buy recycling and informing people about these serious issues of endangered species and what they can do to help. Most important is to help the people willing to help that the small things can help make a difference in the world.
4. I chose the Shore Protection Act of 1988.Citation= United States Environmental Protection Agency. N.p., n.d. Web. 23 Aug. 2012. . It achieved its goals by developing the regulation governing the loading, securing, offloading and cleaning up waste, reception facilities and vessels. They work very hard in cleaning up waste and prohibiting it in certain areas to protect the habitats of ocean creatures. The steps it took to stop the endangerment of the environment was to enforce the rules that no one can transport waste in coastal waters without a permit and the permit only lasts 5 years. This helps the environment because it does not allow fisherman to dump waste to harm ocean creatures.
I agree with you that global warming is a very great impact on the environment now, but wouldn't the cause of global warming be because of pollution? Wouldn't that make pollution the greater impact? I like how you included using Eco-friendly products to help stop pollution and help the environment.

1. To prevent species extinction, the United States should take a few steps. I think they should start making more hybrids to out way the amount of cars that use gasoline. The price of the hybrids should lower down to an acceptable price that more people would be willing to pay for them. Cars that run on gasoline produce immense amounts of carbon dioxide that pollute the air. This causes drastic changes in the weather, where some animals and plants may not be able to survive under such conditions. Eliminating the use of those cars could help stop the change in weather, and save those species of animals and plants. Another thing that could be done to help the species becoming extinct, is try to care for them. The United States could try to protect certain animals and plants that are near extinction, to prevent that from occurring.
2. In the subheading The Human Impact Today lists the effects that humans have on the environment. I believe that pollution is the one that affects the animals and their habitat more greatly. Pesticides and farm fertilizer runoff could get into the food supply of animals and they could ingest those harmful chemicals. These products could kill off animals by getting into their source of food. The exhaust from automobiles also would get into the air and pollute it. Animals and plants taking in the polluted oxygen could be greatly affected and could potentially become sick.
3. What people can do to reduce their negative impact on the environment, is buying organic food where no chemicals were used to produce it. The food that used no chemicals or fertilizer would be much healthier, as well as better for the environment. There would be no runoff of the fertilizer that could get into the food supply of any animals. Another thing that could be done is recycling, or creating biodegradable products so that the environment does not need to be damaged by the harmful products created. Recycling helps the environment by creating something useful out of something that would have just been thrown away. People could start a clean up crew and look for anything that could be thrown away that wasn't already.
4. I chose the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1988.("Summary of Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act" EPA United States Environmental Protection Agency. N.p., n.d. Web. 6 Jan. 2012. .) It achieved its goal by transporting any material that would be used to be dumped in the ocean. They work to help the marine environment and human life to stay safe and healthy. They were worried that the dumping would endanger any of those conditions, so they created rules where dumping in certain areas was prohibited.

ReplyDelete1. I believe that the United States should be putting more restrictions on how much pollution automobiles can produce, and minimums on the MPG of cars. The US could also work on replanting forests, and protecting the animals that live in them.
A very major step to take would have to be made by the businesses of America; they need to lower their reliance on China, which is one of the worst producers of CO2 and CO on the planet. Over the last decade, global winds have blown millions of tons of CO2 and CO from China, to the North Pacific and to the US. To counter this, the UN could try to impose international standards in air quality.
2. I think that the emissions from our buildings and automobiles have caused the greatest impact on plants and animals to date. If it were not for those emissions, there would be little to no “Global Warming”. Though arguably farming and agriculture have had an equal effect on the extinction of plants and animals.
3. People in cities can avoid driving their cars and take trains and busses instead to lower their personal carbon footprint. Everyone can also make sure their lights are off when they’re not using them. Personally I can make sure I am not using too much electricity daily, and plan efficient routes for road trips. Another very easy thing that everyone can do is recycle. It’s easy to recycle and many city dumps have special areas for recyclable materials.
4. I chose the Clean Air Act (CAA). The CAA put limits on pollution starting in 1970. People in many big cities like Los Angelos and Pittsburg had been suffering from something called Smog Sickness (irritable eyes and throat, cough, and nausea). This “outbreak” prompted this law and others like it. The CAA authorized the EPA to set National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for stated in the US. The goal was to set NAAQS for all fifty states by 1975, a goal that was eventually achieved since many areas of the country had failed to meet deadlines. Ever since it was first put into action there have been several major amendments and many smaller ones, with the last major changes having been made in 1990. The law over all set air quality standards which in turn led to less pollution. "Summary of the Clean Air Act." EPA. Environmental Protection Agency, 23 Aug. 2012. Web. 06 Jan. 2013.
I also think that the CAA was a good law to make because the enviornment in the those cities must have been so terrible to actually cause a sickness from pollution. It also makes me wonder if there are other possible illnesses caused by some form of pollution.
DeleteI also agree with the public transportation. I think this could help out our environment because there will be less exhaust. I really like the idea you have about the lights, I also agree with it.
Deletei also believe by having people drive less and take buss' it will help the environment a lot but your thought about farming and agriculture having a big impact on global warming really got me thinking, I would never have thought that agriculture was just as bad as the city or cars until you brought it up. good ideas!
DeleteI thought the notion that pesticides and other harmful effects produced by agricultural processes on the surrounding locale was well-thought out, and the same goes for smog causing irritable eyes and throats in busy city surroundings. I would, however, have to respectfully disagree that global warming has an effect on wildlife. Temperature variations in modern-day environments, in my opinion, aren't changing enough to be able to attribute it to any one factor, such as humans. This was, however, a well-thought out response, and the points were given in a logical manner that made it easy to read and see where you were going with each point.

1. I think the US should start to put limits on how much CO2 companies can use each month or year. By reducing the amount of CO2 being released each year we might slowly start to revearse the process of global warming. The could also start releasing more solar powered inventions because it's a natural power source that would do no damage to our enviornment or planet.
2. I believe that pollution has the biggest effect on the our planet and other species because polution involves plants and animals in the air, on land and in the sea. It hurts coral reefs and other sea animals, it hurts plants because they aren't getting clean air and it hurts animals because their food source might not be healty for them to eat.
3. People could start walking or biking to work or school as it would give the excerise and they wouldn't be polluting the air from driving. People could also pay more attention to recyclables instead of throwing them away with the trash because that's material that can be reused and less material we have to take from the enviornment. I could definetly recycle more like old water bottles and papers and I could recycle at home to and not just at school where we have to recycle.
4. One example where the primary focus is the protection of plants and animals is the Clean Water Act The Clean Water Act prohibits companys from dumping waste products into naviable waters. It is considered unlawful. The law was first made in 1948 but was reorganized and expanded in 1972. A permit must be obtained by a company to dump pollutants in naviable waters. There are also point sources that are discrete conveyencances such as pipes and man made ditches that do not require a permit. (Summary of the Clean Water Act. United States Enviornmental Protection Agency,
n.d. Web. 6 Jan. 2013. .)

1. I think the most important steps that the United States should be taking to prevent species extinction should be to make electric cars to prevent the pollution of automobile exhaust. If this gets changed it could help out our environment for the animals and it will decrease the extinction of them. Also I think that the cars should be less money so people in the United States can afford them. We should also prevent habitat loss by not cutting down the tress in the forest for building roads and new buildings.
2. I think the one that has mostly affected the animals and their habitats is the farm fertilizer runoff and pesticides. This affects the animals the most because the runoff from the fertilizer could get into the animals food. Also the pesticides and chemicals could get into the food which can cause harm to the animal that intakes the food.
3.Some ways people can reduce their impact on the environment is by using public transportation. This will help out our environment because there will be less exhaust. I could help out our environment by recycling more. This could help us out because it wouldn't allow plastic into our landfills.
4. I picked the Endangered Species Act(ESA). The ESA achieved its goal by making a Worldwide list of the endangered species. The steps the ESA took to stop the endangerment of the environment was to get other organizations involved like the U.S Fish Wild life Service and the U.S national Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This group then worked together to get more involved with the endangered species."Summary of ESA | Laws and Regulations | US EPA." US Environmental Protection Agency. N.p., n.d. Web. 6 Jan. 2013. .
From Nick Chaves:
DeleteI agree that using public transportation and electric cars would help the environment. Fertilizer run off is not good. If you think about how many pesticides that are used to get the perfect lawn that has to cause harm to the animals and their environment!

1. In my opinion I believe that implementing a higher gas tax and following the Endangered Species Act are very important factors to prevent species extinction. However, one of the most important steps the U.S. can take to prevent species extinction would be to stop urban growth. Instead of mowing down more trees and build new buildings, roads or farms each city and state should look at places that already exist so that they don’t effect the environment.
The article “sixth mass extinction” talks about our human footprint and states that as this footprint gets bigger and bigger it effects the habitats of plants and animals. I have witnessed this in my own neighborhood as wild Turkeys and deer roam the neighborhood looking for food because they have been displaced from their habitats. I believe that if nationally the U.S. can control urban growth we will be able to prevent species extinction.
2. I believe that the results from our “human footprint” have the greatest effect on animals and their habitats. As the effects of housing, farming, roads, factories and cities grows the habitat for the animals diminishes. This causes a great disturbance on the animals because they are forced to look for a new habitat. Without having an adequate environment, the animals will not be able to find food to survive. If they have no food they will not reproduce and eventually die.
3. Recycling, Carpooling, and limiting the use of oil are some of the things that people can do to reduce their impact on the environment.
If people recycle they are reducing the amount of trash in the world and allowing materials to be used again. It’s not that much effort to recycle and if everyone did it it would be huge for the environment. Instead of tossing that bottle or paper in the trash, simply recycle it!
Carpooling to work, to school, or to a practice will also help the environment because there will be fewer cars on the road. Having fewer cars means less pollution into the air, which will also have a major impact on the environment.
Finally, if oil use is limited there will be less CO2 entering the atmosphere. Instead of heating your home with oil you can look into a wood pellet stove or solar heat. CO2 in the atmosphere is a major factor in global warming that could lead to major extinction of many animals. if more people limited there use of oil animal habitats can be saved!
4. I chose The National Environmental Policy Act (EPA United States Protection Agency. N.p., 23 Aug. 2012. Web. 6 Jan. 2013). The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) was implemented in 1969. It was the first policy act that was set up to provide national protection for our environment. The NEPA achieves its goal having all branches of government give close thought on the impact of federal activities such as new buildings, airports and highways to the environment. NEPA reviews the impacts closely using Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements. These steps are very helpful for when a new building, highway or airport is being planned NEPA reviews how it effects the environment and what steps need to be followed to protect the environment. By having these steps in place the EPA can carefully review a developers plans and determine how it will effect the environment. If there is an environmental concern plans will have to be amended so that the animals of the wetlands are protected.

1. In my opinion I think the most important steps the U.S should take to prevent species extinction is stop the poachers. Poaching animals like whales and bison is causing a huge amount of extinctions. Having the U.S putting restrictions on what you can hunt and not, and where you can kill will help protect certain animals from going extinct. Bison in the 1800s almost went extinct because they were hunted too much. The bison to some are now known as the “Living Dead” because they were almost extinct. Another way the U.S can help extinction is by making sure zoos are taking care of the animals they take in and make sure they are not hurting soon to be extinct animals. This will help the population to grow more and have a stable place to grow.
2. I think that over harvesting and poaching most greatly affects animals and their habitats. If Hunters keep hunting animals such as whales in the same spot, will cause the population to slowly decrease and soon become extinct. With animals such as bison, if hunters keep poaching in their habitat they may migrate to different areas but will not be able to adapt quick enough and might die off.
3. Things simple as recycling can help the environment. By recycling paper and plastic and making those into new things can help reduce pollutions and other complication. Instead of using plastic water bottles you could use a reusable water bottle, or instead of using plastic baggies to put you sandwiches in you could use a reusable plastic container. Things simple and recycling and using reusable items can help the environment from pollution.
4. Endangered species act
One example of legislation was the primary focus is the protection of animals is the endangered species act (United States Environmental Protection Agency. N.p., n.d. Web. 23 Aug. 2012.
. )The endangered species act achieved its goal of protecting soon to be extinct animals by making sure that any imports, foreign commerce, exports, and interstates are prohibited and are not aloud to happen. They made sure that no one can take an endangered species from it natural habitat. The step it took were to find the endangered animals and make sure no one takes over their habitat and take away animals from their habitat.

1. The most important steps to take to prevent species extinction is to switch to either hybrids or hydrogen cars. By doing this there will create less pollution in the air by which is mostly caused by cars releasing carbon dioxide into the air. the smug creates a mask covering the atmosphere locking in all of the heat. This would affect the environment dramatically causing less pollution. it will positively affect all species.
2. I believe that habitat damage and loss will greatly affect animals because when humans come and overtake the land they used they will have trouble or have no where else to stay, hunt or live. By creating farms, houses, or factories it limits what animals can do. having so many man made structures and humans around it is a huge risk to have animals die.
3. Some ways people can reduce their impact on the environment is to start carpooling to work or school. Around the city instead of driving or taking the train walking from place to place can better affect the environment since cars and automobiles give off a lot of carbon dioxide. People can always so small tasks too to help, by shutting off all electronics, planting more tress or starting eating a better diet. By buying organic foods or going to a local farm can affect the environment instead of buying other foods that contain pesticides and fertilizers that can be bad for people, animals and any other species.
4. The National Environmental Policy Act (EPA United States Protection Agency. N.p., 23 Aug. 2012. Web. 6 Jan. 2013)This is act that saves species that are in danger from extinction, abuse and any type of harm. It was the first efforts made by the united states to help any type of animals. with the help of the government It stops any type of construction from being done that would affect a animals well being dramatically. This group is also trying to get other organizations to contribute to their act as well and get the word around. By creating this act it has managed to help many animals to be protected and kept from much danger.
I agree with what you said about switching to hybrid or hydrogen cars. I think that would be a great idea espeically because the main problem with us (humans) is that we use our cars too much, leading to more pollution. I think that if companies worked on advertising and lowering prices of eco-friendly cars then more people would also like the idea of these types of cars.
DeleteI agree with your carpooling idea to prevent less use of cars around the world. That was a really clever idea to make less use of cars and less carbon dioxide.

1. I believe that one of the most important steps the United States should be taking to prevent another species extinction would be to begin slowly trying to eliminate the cars we use today that run on gas. These cars are one of the main causes of pollution helping to increase the rate of Global Warming. By making electric cars or cars that run on things other than gas, the amount of CO2 would decrease by a great amount. Recycling has also become a big step that the United States has been working on to help not only prevent extinctions but also help stop Global Warming. Recycling has been growing a lot in the past years but we must never stop advertising it. Whether its to recycle paper, plastic, water, or our energy at home, these small things will help make our environment a cleaner, safer and better place for future animal species to grow.
2. I believe that from reading the subheading The Human Impact Today Global Warming has the biggest effect on animals and their habitats. I think this because Global Warming effects many things in several ways not just one direct animal or habitat or even area. The increase of CO2 caused from the burning of fossil fuels and cars is leading many animals migrate to colder climates because they simply can not take the heat. A lot of these animals have trouble moving to a new area and some also may take over the species that were naturally there before them, leaving them with no place to go.
3. Many things can be done by groups of people or even individuals to help their impact on the environment. Planting trees and plants with eco-friendly organizations can help try to begin to bring back all the trees we have lost from the cutting down of forest. Car-pooling, taking buses, trains or riding bikes are also simple things that can make a big impact on our environment. Recycling more in school and outside of school is also another major thing we can do along with using less energy at home. Although these things might seem simple, if everyone contributed to doing them, our actions would join together to make a big difference.
4. The article I chose that had the primary focus was on the protection of animals or their
Habitats was the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1988.("Summary of Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act" EPA United States Environmental Protection Agency. N.p., n.d. Web. 6 Jan. 2012. .) This was created to help reinforce the importance of Ocean Dumping and to help determine where it should take place in order to keep our environment safe. This act contained three main focuses on what to do with the transportation of materials in and out of the US. In order to achieve their goal, a permit was needed to allow these three key things. The permit created determined where Ocean Dump could be taken to help keep our oceans clean and safe for our environment and animals.
1. To prevent the sixth mass extinction, I believe that the most important steps that the United States should be taking are to take away the production of cars that run on gas. I believe that this is one of the biggest pollution's in our environment because there are billions and billions of cars in the world, and most of them run on gas, meaning that they produce carbon dioxide into the air. Carbon dioxide plays a huge role in global warming. Global warming is the cause to all these species dying off. It has to stop. If everyone started buying electric cars, this would not be as big of problem. It would decrease the likeliness of extinction.
ReplyDelete2. I personally believe that global warming is the most effective on animals and their habitats. The reason I think this is because global warming is causing the temperature of our environment to change. It is increasingly becoming warmer and warmer. These species were once used to a colder climate and cannot adapt to the rapid increase of the temperature quick enough. The outcome is that the species die off and their habitats are no longer fit for them.
3.There are many ways that people can decrease their harsh impact on the environment. One of the ways is they stop cutting down trees in the environment and start planting more. Another way is if there looking for a new car, they should buy an electric car that is eco-friendly. A third way that people can decrease their impact on the environment is buy energy efficient light bulbs to save energy. I can specifically start recycling. I can recycle plastic and paper. Also, I can use reusable bottles instead of throw away ones. I am very capable of helping and will definitely start.
4.I chose the Clean Water Act.
"Summary of the Clean Water Act." EPA. Environmental Protection Agency, 23 Aug. 2012. Web. 06 Jan. 2013. .
It achieved its goal by making it unlawful to put any kind of pollutant into navigable waters unless you have a permit to do so. The steps it took to stop the endangerment within the environment is they got assistance, inspectors and monitors of the waters, and water enforcement.
1) I believe the some important steps the United States should take to prevent extermination of certain species is to try and slow down pollution caused by humans and undo the damage by planting more plants. Our country should try and have use buses and trains more and find a way to reduce the amount of cars that produce pollution. The United states should also be looking to find an a different fuel source other than gas that we can use as a source of fuel. Some sources such as electricity and solar energy would be the better to use because they majorly reduce global admissions and their is an abundant source of it in the environment so by using this warming the earth will lessen and it will prevent global warming. Lastly I think the United States should introduce lots of organizations to get more wildlife and increase worlds population of forests. If we build little forests we can easily reduce the carbon emissions and end climate change.
ReplyDelete2) I think that pollution is the worst impact humans make on wildlife and their homes. This is because humans are constantly hurting the earth by pollution either getting rid of garbage badly or indirectly through car emissions. Pollution is one of the major impacts causing global warming which is gradually warming the globe. Since organisms depend of of each other so greatly if one species of say plant dies off it will have a trickle down affect on the rest of the animals in the environment. Once one species dies it sparks a mass extinction of that area that happens.
3) There many things that everyone can do to reduce their carbon fingerprint on the environment. For example people could reduce traveling in gas consuming cars and vehicles and take the public transportation instead. You could even ride a bike or find a new creative and clean way to travel. Another thing people could do is reduce littering and other forms of physical destruction and decrease the pollutant that results from them. The world could also try to find alternate sources of energy other than gas that will work just as well. Finally people could try to grow more plants in their town and start up a community garden or anything of the sort that would reduce carbon levels in the atmosphere.
4) I chose the CAA(Clean air act). This act was made to decrease pollutants and carbon emissions into the environment. These people are trying to protect the environment for the people and wildlife that dwell within it. Their main purpose is the safety and health of all living things under our atmosphere and they have been trying to get laws passed that protect our crucial air. Every living thing needs it and everything will die without it. So these people are trying to protect and preserve the air we all desperately need.
1. A lot of people focus on car emissions, but many "leading experts" (ClimateGate) have had less evidence to support global change and more evidence to support a taxing scheme. To me, waste is a big issue. People throw away untouched food, print to excess and then recycle excessive amounts of paper, and in general use more than they need. That right there causes all sorts of problems, psychologically, financially, and environmentally.
ReplyDelete2. Common littering is a problem because animals choke on wrappers, get sick on residue of chemicals, and get stuck in roadside trash. It's an easy problem to avoid and an easy one to fix, which is why I think so many people overlook it.
3. People often tell of all the bad things happening in the environment, yet do little to fix it. If people were motivated, that in itself would not only make the environment cleaner, but people would actually be doing it willingly, for the benefit of themselves and others.
4. ("Summary of Energy Policy Act | Laws and Regulations | US EPA." US Environmental Protection Agency. N.p., n.d. Web. 7 Jan. 2013. <http://www.epa.gov/lawsregs/laws/epa.ht)
I chose the Energy Policy Act. It attempts to save animals by reducing pollution in cars and other gas-powered machines. The irony is that the factories in which green technology is made often requires more energy to run than those that make gas-powered machinery. It saves animals near the road, by reducing emissions there, but the implications on wildlife near the factories is unsettling.
